Missing Link S

Our "Missing Link" pickups are a unique tonal blend of humbuckers and single coils. We start by using threaded magnetic pole pieces (instead of steel), wire them with double coils, add some secret sauce, and you have the Missing Link. These are original designs and their tonal qualities should not be assumed from how the DC Resistances compare to conventional pickups.

The "Missing Link S" bridge model is wound with 42 AWG Heavy Formvar wire (well known for it's use in Vintage Strat pickups) in a pattern that delivers the pure single coil tone of a Strat bridge pickup in a humbucker route, and without the hum. A mild overwind and a 1018 Steel baseplate give a slightly boosted midrange and a little extra beef to the bridge model.

The "Missing Link S" neck model is wound with an unconventional 41 AWG Single Poly Nylon wire in a pattern that delivers the pure single coil tone of a Strat neck pickup in a humbucker route and without the hum. The tone of this pickup is reminiscent of a late ’60’s Strat. Learn more.

The combination of Alnico 5 rods and FeCrCo 5 threaded magnetic pole pieces give a strong attack, providing more articulate and percussive tones than is possible with a conventional humbucker magnet structure.

Adjustable Tone

On all "Missing Link" style pickups, the amount of overtones/harmonics can be adjusted by raising and lowering the pole pieces. Raising them will provide more overtones, whereas lowering them will reduce overtones and warm up the tone.
